Fines
Fines will be charged when material is not returned on time, is returned damaged or is lost. An overdue notice will be sent when there are items more than 14 days overdue. Two weeks after the first notice, a bill for replacement costs will be sent.
Fines are assessed as follows:
• The overdue fine for books, audio books, periodicals and music CDs is 10 cents per day, per item, for each day the library is open.
• The overdue fine for videocassettes and DVDs is 50 cents per day, per item, for each day the library is open.
• The overdue fine for interlibrary loan items is 25 cents per day, per item. The library may refuse interlibrary loan requests from patrons who have been delinquent in returning materials on time.
• The replacement cost plus a $4.00 processing fee is charged for lost or damaged items.
• Once $1.00 in fines is accumulated on a library card, borrowing privileges are suspended until fines are paid.
• Fines may be paid by cash or check at any MRLS library. If a check is returned by the bank for "insufficient funds", a fee of $35.00 will be charged to cover costs incurred by the library, and the library may decide not to accept any further checks from that patron.
