Reconsideration of Materials Policy
Patrons who express concern about the suitability of library materials will be referred to the Library Director or supervisor if the Director is not available.
They will be given a copy of the "Library Bill of Rights" and "Challenged Materials", and an explanation of the importance of having a broad base of materials to meet the demands of a diverse community and other underlying principles concerning the Freedom to Read.
If a patron still wishes to have the material reviewed, they must fill out a Reconsideration Form and turn it in to the Library Director or to the librarian in charge.
The material will then be reviewed by the Library Director and a board member who has been chosen to serve in this capacity to determine if it meets the criteria of the selection policy. If the material in question is from the Richardson Branch, their Branch Head will also be on the committee. Their decision will be considered final.
This will be considered a confidential matter and will be treated as such by the library staff. No one will be told that a certain material has been questioned, and information concerning the questioning patron will not be divulged.
