Summer 2008   The Bug Man—Creepy Crawlers Henry Michaloski, the “Nature Boy,” has performed for over 5,300 audiences in 36 states. He provides informative, witty, and energetic programs relevant to the world of nature. His program includes 2 tarantulas- Maria & Poncho and more!  Praise for Henry--The 7-year old tarantula named Maria rested on his hand as he explained nocturnal animals and led the groups in a rendition of “Itsy Bitsy Spider!” Cynthia Gregg—Bees, Beetles & Beyond Cynthia brings “insects with class!”  Enjoy the lively lives of insects as well as all about the lovely and not so lovely insects. The Spellbound Spider Come enjoy Diary of A Spider by Doreen Cronin along with fun songs. Every child will create and take home a spectacular spider frame project. All crafts are supplied by the Library!  Ocean In Motion Aquarium Truck Tour- The Virginia Aquarium brings the ocean to the Library. Feel the spines of a sea urchin, touch the slimy foot of a sea snail, and observe the tiny tube feet of the sea star while professional instructors share fun facts about each invertebrate. Splish, splash, they’re taking a bath! Jeff Richardson—Fireflies For Fire Safety (BCL) Jeff Richardson & Sparky the Fire Dog will teach children all about fire safety along with fun facts about Fireflies. Children will enjoy The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle. Come fly with us! Brian Bullock —Fireflies For Fire Safety (RML) Families will learn tips on how to prevent fires and what actions to take in case of an emergency. Free fire hats, fire truck tours, and fantastic stories for everyone! Arts & Crafts—Loveable Ladybugs Children will enjoy The Very Lazy Ladybug by Isobel Finn & Jack Tickle. Every child will create and take home bugs. All crafts are supplied by the Library! Jonathan Austin—SRP Party! High above the crowds he peddles a unicycle back and forth, in circles, feigning insecurity- hands reach out ready to brace him for a fall that never happens- all the time, juggling everything imaginable, from tennis rackets to torches. Jonathan has performed at The White House, The Kennedy Center, Walt Disney World and New York City's Central Park. Refreshments will be served. Enjoy this jolly, juggling, joyful performance!
